Customized instruction
911 customized instruction is a flexible and innovative way of learning that provides literacy instruction
for individuals of all academic levels (including special education, home
schooled, ESL students and adults). It based on the theory that people can
learn to
appreciate and understand the value of the printed word and experience positive
feelings about reading. It
introduces reading strategies that can be applied to various reading texts and also addresses writing, speaking, listening, and viewing skills. Printed
materials are used in four reading text areas narrative, informational,
persuasive, and workplace. Students can expect to enhance their reading/writing, critical
thinking, reading comprehension, organization and study skills as well as their
appreciation for reading.
Foreign Film/Documentary
911
Foreign Film Reading Workshop is designed to promote reading fluency and a
better command of the English language. Students read subtitled dialogue,
practice comprehension skills and
enhance reading pace.
Need College Help?
The 911
Educator is also design instruction for college students who need assistance in reading
strategies and/or study skills for college reading materials. College texts
and other relevant instructional materials can be incorporated in instruction sessions.
Reading
through the Aesthetics
The 911 Educator involves students with their physical surroundings (ex. architecture) and the arts (ex. paintings, photography, acting, dance, music and more). A greater appreciation and understanding of reading and writing emerges through interactive activities with the arts
and architecture . Life experiences and worldly knowledge merge and
students marvel at the wonders of reading.
